Art Journalling

It’s been a while! I took a bit of a break it seems. Life got a bit hectic and I put the art making on the back burner…forget the back burner…I didn’t even pull out the pot to get cooking.

So what’s been going on? I went to Nova Scotia for a month in July to start working on my Masters in Education at St. Francis Xavier University and while I had good intentions of making art I had enough to do during that time. Then I got home in August and it just flew by. I can’t even tell you what I did because I don’t think it was that much, if I’m being honest.

The from September until now I have been learning how to navigate teaching, being creative, takings courses and writing papers.

It hasn’t been easy. To top it all off the time that I would have spent making Art was taken over by my Shih tzu’s increasing neurotic behaviour. He started insisting that he had to be up between 4:30 and 5 am to go outside and to be fed. Normally I would get up at 5 am, make some art, get ready for work and THEN get the shih tzu up to do his morning thing.

That was no longer happening. He’s on anti anxiety medication now. It’s helping. He is now regularly (knock on wood, cross your fingers etc, etc, etc) sleeping in until 7:30 am. Which means if he keeps this up I can, perhaps, reestablish my own morning routine again that is not shih tzu centric.

My goal is to establish a short, but creative daily routine that I can manage. I still have classes and I still work full time but I realize now that I need that injection of creativity that is just for me. So, hopefully once I week I will post what I have made in the morning.

I have been using an art journal, a dylusion ones I believe and in the evening before bed I gesso the page I am going to work on the next day. Then I simply tape of my edges and go to town. I’m having fun and just, simply being creative. Hopefully I can continue in the new year. Here is what I have done this week.
